The Track Module is where reality is interjected into the Operational Planning process. The Track Module must provide the capability for the Scheduler and the Shop Floor Operator to communicate with each other. The scheduler communicates his priorities in the form of a work-to-list and the operator communicates what actually happens on the shop floor. The better this communiaction works, the better the plant runs.
The key ingredients of the Track Module are:
It must be easy to use for the operator.
It must be able to instantly communicate changes to and from the shop floor
It must be able to collect key data for reporting
It must provide flexibility for the Operator to override the schedule
It must be able to hold the operators accountable if and when they make changes to the schedule.
It should provide a way of passing electronic documents to the floor.
It should be able to show the operator exactly where a job is.
*** Many manufacturing companies already have tracking systems in place and a decision must be made based on how easy it is to integrate this system to fit the needs of the Operational Planning process or if they need to acquire a proven tool like Factory Viewer.
